Witness to Truth
WITNESS TO TRUTH
In 2005, Marissa Roth was commissioned by the Simon Wiesenthal Center/Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, to create a portrait series, Witness to Truth, of the Holocaust survivors affiliated with the museum who volunteered their time, some for decades, to recount their stories of survival over and over again to museum visitors.
In addition to photographing the survivors, Roth also chose to interview them, when possible, in order to document their personal stories and to glean a ‘life quote’ that accompanies the biographical information with each portrait. She completed this 15-year project in February 2020, and the resulting 104 portraits are on permanent exhibition at the museum.
